Student centered instruction is not flipping the classroom, it is STUDENT CENTERED INSTRUCTION, which can be accomplished using any methiod a teacher can construct, includding the flipped classroom concept.
I also learned the hard way what I did NOT get as a student (and dscardip.com repeated 9 classes because of it) and sought for my students not to have to suffer the same fate. Bottom line: Those who don’t understand the concept of having students actually figure things out won’t understand any of this anyway.
The head of science pointed out the high A-level results of my students, but the Ofsted inspector gave the second lesson a satisfactory. There are many different demonstrations that can safely be used in the classroom to demonstrate concepts that are part of chemistry.
Teachers are told that the actions of students reflect them instead of the many other influences in students’ lives (crappy parents, uneducated parents, poor nutrition, general hatred for a subject, a belief that all teachers are stupid fueled by people like you, the media, and politicians, a belief that school has no value and they’ll be rich by being awesome like Kim Kardashian, etc.).
Some schools only require a basic science certification on top of a bachelor’s in teaching, but if you are serious about teaching chemistry, you need a bachelor’s specific to the subject. Funnily enough, the class had extra value due to this, but I’m less inclined to assign that value to the teacher, and more the cost in grades because of said added value.
