What is dog grooming?
If you have a dog as a pet you need to take care of all the issues related to the dog such as the hygienic care and the cleanliness of a canine. Grooming your pet is also important in order to improve the physical appearance and also to maintain the good health of your dog. If you want your pet to participate in shows and other such competitions, grooming is essential.
A dog groomer
Any individual who has taken up dog grooming as their profession and earns their livelihood by grooming canines is known as a groomer.
Reasons for grooming
Mentioned below are the reasons why a canine needs to be groomed on a regular basis
o The chances of numerous health problems like scratches, skin related diseases and thrush are reduced.
o To maintain the basic cleanliness of your dog.
o To forge a close bond between you and your dog.
o To lower the influx of external parasites on your dog’s skin.
o Mainly to monitor your pets overall health, any indications that your canine is suffering from any illness such as changes in temperament, heat, lameness, swelling or cuts.
Basic Grooming
If you do not want to spend money on a professional groomer, some basic steps are mentioned below on how to groom your dog at home. You need to have some basic pet grooming supplies ready before you start. For short haired dogs you will need- Glove or Curry brush, Rubbing alcohol, Blow dryer or towel, Dog nail clippers, Collar, Ear cleaner, Pet toothbrush, cloth or cotton balls and dog shampoo. The list is more or less the same for long haired dogs except that in place of Glove or a Curry brush you will need an Undercoat rake, Slicker or a Pin brush. Once you have all of these supplies in place you are ready.
o Start by brushing your dog.
o Give breaks of small intervals while brushing your dog.
o If you cannot smoothen a mat, cut them or shave them.
o Clean your canine’s eyes.
o Brush your dog’s teeth.
o Clean its ears.
o Clip it’s nails.
o Bathe your dog using a dog shampoo.
o Towel dry or blow dry as necessary.
o Clip your dog’s fur if you deem it necessary, but do it only after its hair is thoroughly dried.
While you carry on with the basic grooming procedures make sure you are patient with your dog. Give your canine regular breaks so that they are not overwhelmed.
